Workwear Inspiration: the Senate Aides

Perhaps it is irreverent to pay attention to the clothes worn by the Senate aides who were photographed removing the boxes of ballots from the Senate floor during the events of Wednesday. But I think each one of the young women in the images evoked poise in a way that all women should strive for in the workplace. So I am here to tell you how to dress like the Senate aides who saved the ballots.

The Snow Leopard Dress

One of the women wore a satiny snow leopard dress with a tied waist and a white headband. I found a dress I thought may in fact be the actual dress the woman wore:

She accessorized the look with a white headband. This one here would work well. She also had slightly oblong silver hoop earrings like these, which are listed for under $15.

Another one of the women had a lovely black-on-black look incorporating a leather skirt. Some of the contemporary, modest cuts for leather skirts have made them appropriate for work, and the Senate Aide had a perfect example of one. Hers was an a-line with definition at the waist. She also balanced the look with a purely traditional fitted black turtleneck.

Banana Republic Vegan Leather Pleated Midi Skirt

I think this Banana Republic leather skirt is a good option for the look. The waist band is relatively narrow, and the pleat will add texture and femininity that a straight, leather miniskirt would lack.

J. Crew Tissue Turtleneck

The trick to incorporating a slightly unconventional clothing item into a professional look is the fit, and balancing the look. The leather skirt with some swing and length kept it professional, and her pairing of the skirt with a very classic fitted turtleneck kept the whole look from looking too edgy.

Today's Delights:

  • I had an appointment with my chiropractor yesterday, and I feel so much more loose.
  • I gave myself a manicure yesterday. I have been working on learning to do my own nails as well as the professionals do it, and I'm getting so much better!
  • And yesterday, I took a half day because my vacation hours have maxxed out. It was fun to have a little time to myself during a work day, and I watched The Mandalorian for the first time! It's fun! And I feel a hundred years behind the times, but Baby Yoda is so cute

Comments

  1. 1. I want the leopard dress
    2. Our home manicures got as far as buying seven colors of nail polish. The rest of it is over our head!
I am obsessed with your blog. It’s fantastic!
