Soothing Sunday: Favorite Things to Rewatch

Happy Sunday! I honestly love writing these little notes to you sweet readers (even though there are not many of you!). This has been a great Sunday so far.

We woke up to a few more inches of fresh snow! To anyone from a warm climate, the fact that we get more snow alllll the time is probably shocking! But it's been so sweet. This morning, I went to drive-in mass with a beautiful surrounding scene of snow. This morning's homily talked about how Jesus went to fishermen--people with an everyday profession--to find his disciples. And in today's world, perhaps Jesus would have come to bakers, accountants, taxi drivers, and teachers. Jesus looks to every person to be a disciple and a sharer of the Good News.

When I got home, I made a gorgeous breakfast that I was really proud of! My husband and I ate it all! We had bacon, biscuits, and cheesy eggs. Then, to be healthy, I added a side salad to my plate!

I mean... how tasty does that look!? Although I know my biscuits look goofy :) Those were the ones made out of the leftover dough when I finished cutting out the circular biscuits.

The Art of Rewatching

I thought of this topic last night when I picked our movie for the evening. My husband and I try to alternate picking the movie, and last night was my turn. I picked Star Wars Episode VII (i.e., the first one with BB-8). Once it ended, my husband asked how I liked it, and I said 'oh, I liked it as much as I liked it the first time I watched it!' He hadn't realized I'd seen it before, because I had all the reactions of someone who didn't know what was happening, haha! I absolutely love rewatching things. Every once in a while, I'm excited to watch something I haven't seen, but I will always be glad to rewatch.

When I was in college, I had a perpetual loop of The Office replaying on Netflix. When I was in law school, I would watch and rewatch The Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, 30 Rock, Gossip Girl, and New Girl. I would also watch Ballerina, a documentary about several Russian prima ballerinas, repeatedly. I've watched all of the Harry Potter movies as well as The Lord of the Rings trilogy countless times.

I have heard that rewatching and rereading is a coping mechanism for people with anxiety. Perhaps that makes sense, because you can be very comforted by knowing how the story will turn out. But I don't think that it's necessarily something that only a person with anxiety would enjoy: everyone likes to have a little predictability now and then.

Favorite Things to Rewatch

Okay, I've definitely mentioned many of them already, but here are my absolute favorites to rewatch:

  • The Office
  • 30 Rock
  • Schitt's Creek (hasn't been around that long, but I've rewatched a lot!)
  • The Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt
  • An Education
  • Ballerina
  • Center Stage
  • Gossip Girl
  • New Girl
  • All of the Harry Potter movies
  • The Lord of the Rings trilogy
  • Star Wars--mostly the new ones, because the old ones don't have a lot of nostalgia factor for me
  • The Holiday

Okay, your turn! Do you have anything that you could literally turn on any time and be content? How about something that's a great background noise for you?

Today's Delights

  • In addition to movie night last night, we got takeout from a local pizzeria. We try to do takeout for dinner once per week, and we have a pretty great list of local restaurants to enjoy. It was deliiiiicious.
Pepperoni pizza, and a battered/fried block of mozzarella (omg.)
  • I restarted my membership with Noom. I used it previously to lose weight before a wedding where I was a bridesmaid. I was really pleased with the results, but ultimately fell off the wagon. Recently a friend posted about her own weight loss journey, and it inspired me to get back on the wagon. We'll see how it goes! Have you used Noom or anything similar?
  • I gave the kitchen a deep clean yesterday, which was super fun and refreshing.
  • Today, my husband and I did a little meal prepping for the week to set ourselves up for success. I'm going to have Gaby Dalkin's cauliflower shawarma bowls for lunches in the week.
  • (So many delights today!) Also, it's NFL championship Sunday: our house is rooting for the Chiefs and the Packers! How about you?
Ok, there's so much to delight in! Love, A
